Health Insurance Explained |
|
Did you know that health insurance comes in two flavors? There are two, broad categories of health insurance plans available to consumers. Indemnity plans are the first of these options. An indemnity plan will allow you to select the physician of your choice and will cover your medical expense to a level that you determine (partially, in full, or up to a maximum amount).
The second category of health insurance plans is a managed care plan. This is the type of plan that a company generally offers its employees. These managed care plans may take the form of a health maintenance organization (HMO) or a preferred provider organization (PPO). One limitation of this type of health insurance is that in the case of an HMO, a subscriber is required to establish one primary care physican that manages and coordinates all health care and is usually required to seek treatment from a health care specialist. |
